Audio/video installation, 6 min
Rearrangement of sound and video footage from the 2021 Olympics. Saint Boy, the horse assigned to A. Schleu, refused to participate, terminating her certain chances for the gold medal. The soundtrack includes snippets from the commentator narrating the event. The digital sculpture resembles a musical box and a trophy, incorporating ornaments from the original obstacles of the course along with some footage of the horse and rider. The odd structure marks a pivotal point in the relationship between the two species — a division of that has deepened since the Industrial Revolution, despite our history as close, albeit different, allies. The video installation serves as a reflection on the media spectacle following this event and as an ode to Saint Boy, as these sculptural musical boxes were crafted to mark historic events like battles and in this case, the segregation of the two species. Following the olympic incident, horses were phased out from pentathlon events—a place that already symbolized their ornamental setting in society—Goodbye Horses.
